Ingredients - Strawberry Jalapeno BBQ Sauce:

  • 16 Oz Jake's Original Mild BBQ Sauce
  • 1 or 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup strawberry preserves or jam
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

Directions:

In a small saucepan add the oil and cook the jalapeno  until tender. Stir in the preserves or jam, and Jake's Original Mild BBQ Sauce. Bring just to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, about 10 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.

Set aside and let rest.

This strawberry jalapeno BBQ sauce can be used within minutes of cooling which allows the flavors of the sauce, strawberry preserves or jam and jalapeno to mature and meld.

Spoon sauce as condiment, dip or on ribs to flavor before grilling.

This is a very simple recipe that we put together for our nephews and nieces and later we used it for ourselves.  The recipe is so simple that you basically combine one of our excellent recipe Really Good BBQ Sauces with jalapenos and strawberry preserves.  The result is an awesome spicy barbecue sauce blend that can be used or kept in container for many weeks.  Of course when you blend and use the barbecue sauce we doubt that there will be much of it left because the simpleness of the recipe it what makes it awesome.

The other day we made some of the strawberry jalapeno bbq sauce just for brisket.  You wouldn't normally think of jalapeno BBQ sauce and brisket but I can tell you that it was one of the best ideas we had in a long time.  First we sauced the brisket just before getting it going on the grill.  We knew our brisket would be cooking for about 10 hours so we layered on the sauce every 2 hours just to develop an intense flavor and to add to the flavor of the meat.  At the very end of the cook we sauced the meat and wrapped it in butcher paper.  From there we allowed the meat to rest in the sauce for the remaining cook time.  After the meat was cooked and allowed to rest for about 40 minutes we sliced it across the grain and layered on some sauce.  Not everyone wanted the sauce so we reserved some in the bottle and left it on the table for those who might want it later.  The result and the comments were that this was a really great effort that brought of the flavor of the meat and improved the overall brisket experience.

One thing to note is that this sauce can be used as a marinade.  I would take chicken which has been placed in a plastic bag or container then add the sauce over the chicken.  I turn the chicken a few times to ensure that the chicken is evenly coated.  Once coated I allow the chicken to marinate in the sauce for at least an hour.  At grilling time I turn the chicken in the marinate and remove it placing the chicken directly on the grill.  I do not remove the chicken before placing it on the grill.  I want the sauce to cook into the meat and caramelize with all those wonderful flavors.
