Ingredients Chicken in Barbecue Sauce

  1. 2 whole chicken breasts, halved, or 4 drumsticks and 4 thighs, or 8-10 chicken wings
  2. Salt and pepper to taste
  3. 2 T Olive Oil
  4. 1 Cup Jake's Medium Hot BBQ Sauce

Directions for Chicken Baked in BBQ Sauce

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Season the chicken well with salt and pepper and arrange in a baking pan with a little space in between. Cook for about an hour or until the chicken is crisp and any water that may accumulate on the bottom has evaporated.

Remove the chicken from the oven and place in a stove top pot.  Add the Jake's Medium Hot Barbecue sauce directly over the chicken to taste. Bring the sauce to a boil and then simmer uncovered, for a few minutes, until slightly thickened.

Remove the chicken and finish under the broiler or on the grill until the sauce has slightly blackened and becomes caramelized on the chicken. Serve any extra BBQ sauce on the side.

Making Oven BBQ Chicken In Sauce Recipe

This recipe is very simple and requires almost or very little effort.  You take advantage of some great barbecue sauce and utilize that as a basting topping and marinade when your choose.  I've made this recipe many times especially when I've had a long day and just want something simple.  I use a large metal pan or dish that is oven safe then seasoned the chicken and coat with the barbecue sauce.  When I have more time I actually take the chicken and place it in bags filling it with the barbecue sauce.  I allow the chicken to marinate in the bags for at least an hour.  Following the marinating I remove the chicken parts and take off any excess sauce with a spoon.  I place the chicken in a metal container or baking dish and bake at 350 degrees until the chicken is done.  Thereafter I coat the chicken with BBQ Sauce and serve.

Sometimes in place of the Medium Hot BBQ Sauce I'll use our Really Hot BBQ Sauce or just the Really Good Mild BBQ Sauce.

I've used this recipe so many times and have made the chicken for demonstrations.  The hard part of doing the chicken in demos is being able to get the chicken cooked in advance.  And for this reason I use small bits of chicken that may be pre-cooked.  I used a large pot on a small burner that is used to steep the barbecue sauce.  Afterward the chicken is added in the sauce and cooked through for about 20 to 30 minutes until ready for sampling.

An alternate method to the baking is the grilling of the chicken.  We use the baking method because it allows the chicken to retain its liquid making the chicken juicy.  But in a pinch I use the grill or broiler method.  This method crisps the skin and has a tendency to remove a little more liquid from the chicken than baking.
