Here's what some of our customers thought about our Southwestern Hickory Dry Rub.

Kathy L.

"I like using the Southwestern Rub. I find that it goes on really nicely and has just the right amount of spiciness.  I like that fact that there is some cayenne in the rub which makes it different from all those other want to be rubs.  We will be buying more."

Troy E.

"I used to go to that store in Portland and I remember the ribs in the case.  They told me that sold over 30 racks a day and so I got one and Man was that great.  I was on the list the very next day and kept buying as long as they were making them.  I bought this 12 Ounce version to give to friends who couldn't be here.  This is a great, slightly spicy dry rub."

Jake's Southwestern Hickory Dry Rub

I'm sure many of you have heard the term calling something "an easy lift" well our Southwestern Hickory BBQ Rub is just such a lift.  Easy, not because it's a great BBQ Rub, and not because is has some amazing flavors like Chili Powder, paprika, garlic, smoked hickory salt and hints of natural sugars or just because you can use it on ribs, chicken, fish and more.  It's easy because these are natural seasonings that go on easy, rest naturally on meat without flavor enhancers and deliver the best natural taste West of Texas.

I love using this rub especially with people who don't know much about barbecue.  I often take the rub along with some baby back ribs get them all nice and prepared then I shake the rub on generously and let it rest.  My friends usually stand in awe of how simple it is to use these great BBQ Rub seasonings and often ask just how we use them with such regard for the meat.  I show them the best and easiest ways to increase the flavor of the meat naturally without the use of chemicals or flavor enhancers.  I tell them the story about my friends in Portland, Oregon who used the spice rub on some excessively trimmed tri-tip and
well trimmed ribs.  I of course had to enlighten about the use of fat on Tri-Tip and how it was like gold to the flavor of the meat.  One must never trim too much or too little to get the best flavor on a tri-tip.  And once I've indoctrinated my friends fully I slow grill the ribs by the use of the 3-2-1 process and with a little light smoking the meat.  I ask them if they want the meat falling off the bone or just nice and firm with a little chewy texture.  And after the smoking and grilling is done I let the meat rest.  This is the critical part of the entire process.  Yes, you can prep and smoke and grill all you want but if you don't properly rest the meat then the entire process might be for naught.  Following the smoking, grilling and resting I use a proper knife to slice the ribs and tri-tip.  I cut the tri-tip on the perpendicular and cut the meat about 1/4 inch thick.  At this stage the meat is medium rare to medium well and fully flavored just awaiting the garlic bread, beans and macaroni salads.

My friends really enjoyed the use of the Southwestern Hickory Rub and especially like the 12 Ounce size.  They like the fact that there is enough seasonings for multiple barbecues and for other things like breakfast eggs, chili, vegetables and different meats.  While this process of making tri-tip and ribs is somewhat simple you can achieve results as good or better than what we did.  I used a standard Weber barbecue
grill and if you use an Traeger, or Green Egg or Rec-Tec, or some other Santa Maria style grill with the ability to manage heat by lift and lowering the grill plates you can certainly achieve an excellent barbecue.

We've made some noise about the fact that these are considered Best BBQ Rub seasonings. We've been voted best Barbecue Rub for multiple years and even though we don't always list all the awards there are many of them of prominence.

Jake, I read your blurb on Southwestern Hickory and bought some for a friend. The other night they invited me over for some grilled salmon and baked potatoes with roasted red peppers and salsa. Little did I know they used all your recipes. The seasoning was amazing with that New Mexican Chili combination just the right flavor. The seasoning was so great especially when they added it to the butter and sour cream on the potatoes. And last but not least they made your Aloha Salsa recipe and placed in on the Salmon just like chutney...really great. Needless to say there were no leftovers. Another fine job Jake.

In the Northeast we eat a lot of Catfish so I was looking for something new to add to our regular cornmeal mix. A couple of fellas told me about this Jake's Southwestern dry rub. I got the link ordered the rub and I have not been happier! All I do is add 3 tablespoons to about a cup of mix and coat my fish. I like to fry it up and man...this is some good stuff. I get this nice light spiciness and new mexican chili flavor along with just the right amount of saltiness. Great Job Jake!
